TOP GLOVE RECOGNISED AT PRIME MINISTER'S HIBISCUS AWARD 2019/2020

Company awarded for Notable Achievement in Environmental Performance

Shah Alam, Monday, 8 March 2021 Top Glove is pleased to announce that it has garnered an award for Notable Achievement in Environmental Performance at the prestigious Prime Minister’s Hibiscus Award 2019/2020.

The Notable Achievement in Environmental Performance award, which marks the Company’s first win at the Prime Minister’s Hibiscus Award, is a recognition of the Company’s commitment to environmental protection in Malaysia; driven by its leadership through a board representation on sustainability initiatives and governance.

Top Glove’s Managing Director, Dato’ Lee Kim Meow, says: “Top Glove has always believed in doing well by doing good and we remain committed to managing our business in a way that respects and contributes positively to our employees, the environment, and the greater community. This recognition by the prestigious Prime Minister’s Hibiscus Award 2019/2020 is meaningful to us as it is a validation of the effectiveness of the environmental practices we have put in place and this win will serve to motivate us to continue enhancing our efforts in upholding responsible green practices.”

Recognising the effect of climate change as an impactful risk to the business, community and environment, the Company has undertaken several initiatives to minimise its carbon footprint in line with the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goal 13 (SDG 13: Climate Action). These initiatives, which aim to reduce the Company’s greenhouse gas (GHG) emission intensity by 23% by FY2024 with FY2019 as the base year, include investment in green energy and solar power system; adherence to the Environmental Policy and Environmental Management System; efficient water management and energy management; air pollution and waste management; facilities investment and improvement; product innovation; rubber waste recycling; and data monitoring.

Various other environmental practices and commitments by Top Glove at its factories include having On-Site Detention (OSD) tanks and rain harvesting tanks; water recycling practices; installation of advanced energy efficient systems; replacing old air conditioners and refrigerators with those with 5-star energy rating; installing environmental facilities such as Industrial Effluent Treatment Systems and air pollution control systems; and converting rejected nitrile gloves/waste into useful rubber products such as shoe soles, floor mats, and gaskets for holders of formers, among others.

Additionally, the Company too has disclosed its climate change and water security impacts through several Environmental, Social, Governance (ESG) rating platforms which include CDP; a global non-profit that runs the world’s leading environment disclosure platforms; FTSE4Good; and MSCI.

The Prime Minister’s Hibiscus Award 2019/2020 recognition was for one of Top Glove’s factories, F12, which was certified with ISO 14001:2015 that specify requirements for effective environmental management system, in 2019. Currently seven (7) Top Glove factories are certified with ISO 14001:2015 certification, and another four (4) are in the midst of applying for the certification this year. Top Glove aims to include its other factories next year.

The Company’s corporate office, Top Glove Tower, is also a Grade A and Green Building Index (GBI) certified gold office and retail block, compliant with quality standards set by the internationally recognised Construction Quality Assessment System (CONQUAS) and Malaysia’s Quality Assessment System in Construction (QLASSIC).

In November 2020, Top Glove was listed on the Dow Jones Sustainability Indices (DJSI) under Emerging Markets for the 2nd year running in recognition of its sustainability practices. The Company was ranked 13th out of 73 healthcare companies, outperforming 83% of its industry peers while being the only Malaysian company listed on the DJSI last year.
