TOP GLOVE CHAIRMAN AWARDED HONORARY FELLOWSHIP FROM INSTITUT FIZIK MALAYSIA (IFM)

Shah Alam, Tuesday, 2 July 2019 Top Glove Executive Chairman and Founder, Tan Sri Dr Lim Wee Chai was today appointed an Honorary Fellow of Institut Fizik Malaysia (IFM).

The certificate was presented during a courtesy visit to Top Glove’s corporate headquarters by a delegation from IFM led by its President, Professor Dr. Kurunathan Ratnavelu.

The Honorary Fellowship is the highest accolade to be awarded by IFM and is given out only to a distinguished practising Physicist or an individual with an academic background in Physics or allied field and who has contributed immensely to his field or industry. IFM has since its inception only given out a total of 8 honorary fellowships, for which Tan Sri Dr Lim is the first recipient from an entrepreneurial background.

Tan Sri Dr Lim holds a Bachelor of Science (Physics) from University of Malaya and is also the driving force and visionary credited with leading Top Glove to become the world’s largest manufacturer of gloves.

Tan Sri Dr Lim remarked: “I am truly honoured. Thank you to Professor Kurunathan and the Malaysian Institute of Physics for awarding me this prestigious Honorary Fellowship. The Malaysian Institute of Physics is a fine representative body that creates avenues for cooperation in and has contributed greatly to advancements in the field of physics.

“Physics gave me a strong base, which I could build on as I continued to learn more about the glove business and acquire more skills as Top Glove continues to grow”, Tan Sri Dr Lim continued.

Professor Ratnavelu said: “We have been fortunate to have met and hosted Nobel Laureates and other outstanding Physicists in the IFM history. But, never have we had the opportunity to meet a physics graduate who with his wife and others build an organisation that is number 1 in the world. We are happy that Tan Sri Dr Lim accepted our invitation to be an Honorary Fellow.”

The IFM Council during its 341st Council Meeting in February 2019, had decided to award Tan Sri Dr Lim the Honorary Fellowship for his outstanding contributions to Malaysia as an icon for global glove manufacturing as well as an outstanding role model for young physicists.
