TOP GLOVE LAUNCHES ZERO HARM & SAFETY HEALTH EMERGENCY PREPAREDNESS PROGRAM

Factory 9 Top Glove’s first manufacturing facility to embark on program

Klang, Wednesday, 1 May 2019 Top Glove Corporation Bhd (Top Glove) today launched its Zero Harm and Safety Health Emergency Preparedness Program. The ceremony took place at Factory 9 in Meru, Klang, which was the first of Top Glove’s manufacturing facilities to embark on this program towards being a Zero Harm factory.

Present to officiate this significant occasion was Top Glove’s Executive Chairman, Tan Sri Dr Lim Wee Chai and Dr Navindra Nageswaran, Managing Director of Top Glove Global Doctors (TGGD), which is Top Glove’s medical joint venture partner. Also in attendance were Top Glove staff, including representatives from Human Resources and the Safety Team, as well as personnel from TGGD.

“Zero Harm” is a conceptual approach to heighten the occupational safety of a work place, whereby a workplace operates without exposing an individual to injury, through the implementation of safe work environment systems. The Zero Harm culture has been introduced at Top Glove as an additional initiative, over and above complying with safety and health requirements set out by the Department of Health and Safety (DOSH).

A factory that implements the Zero Harm culture and Safety Health Emergency Preparedness Program will have a designated First Aid Corner equipped with cardiac emergency, immobilisation, stabiliser and mobiliser equipment. The factories First Responders and Safety Health Officers will work in tandem with a 24 hours emergency respond team. Top Glove has also invested in a 24-hour emergency ambulance with trained paramedics for all its factories located within Meru, which will be operational by 15 June 2019. The ambulance will be located at TGGD Medical and Dental Clinic, which is in Top Glove’s Corporate Office, Top Glove Tower and a 10-minute drive to Top Glove’s Klang factories. TGGD Medical and Dental Clinic will increase its operational hours from 12 hours to 24 hours and have a total of 10 personnel including doctors to support the program.

Tan Sri Dr Lim commented, “Zero harm means preventing errors and minimizing injuries in all our factories, which has always been our direction at Top Glove”.

“Our people continue to be our foremost priority. As a responsible employer, we must ensure that all our employees are safe, especially within our premises. With a strong and healthy workforce, the company is able to propel towards greater heights”, Tan Sri Dr Lim added.

2 more of Top Glove factories, Factories 4 and 11, have since enrolled in the Zero Harm program. Top Glove will continue working towards the Zero Harm status in its manufacturing facilities, in addition to complying to safety and health requirements. All of Top Glove’s factories in Klang are expected to be on the Zero Harm program by end of 2019.
