Gloves proven to biodegrade at least 10 times faster than conventional nitrile examination gloves

Shah Alam, Wednesday, 5 June 2019 Top Glove Corporation Bhd (Top Glove) officially launched its flagship green product, BioGreen Biodegradable Nitrile Gloves (Powder-Free), in conjunction with World Environment Day.

Developed to provide unparalleled protection not only for the user but also the environment, this environmentally-friendly variant of disposable nitrile gloves is designed to biodegrade in anaerobic environments (where there is little to no breathable oxygen) such as in landfills.

Biodegradation within landfills occurs through a natural microbial process, in which microbes from the soil consume and digest the gloves biologically, which reduces accumulation of waste. The biodegradability of these gloves has been measured using the internationally-recognised ASTM D5511 Standard Test, in which these biodegradable nitrile gloves have been proven to biodegrade at least 10 times faster compared to conventional nitrile examination gloves. The BioGreen Biodegradable Nitrile Gloves hence, provide an “end-of-life solution” which will contribute to reducing the accumulation of waste in landfills.

While offering the same high quality and reliability Top Glove has come to be renowned for, the BioGreen Biodegradable Nitrile Gloves also incorporate an added benefit: they minimise the risk of Type IV hypersensitivity reaction which is triggered by exposure to chemical accelerators, thanks to an accelerator-free formulation. Ideal for use in both the medical and non-medical sector, the ambidextrous gloves also come in sizes XS to XL, and are available in pastel green and other colours. The gloves also conform to ASTM D6319 and EN455 Standards, and are manufactured under QSR (GMP) ISO 9001:2015 and ISO 13485:2016 Quality Management System.

Top Glove’s BioGreen Biodegradable Nitrile Gloves were also the only glove product to be shortlisted under the category of “New Environmentally Friendly Products”, at the recent Private Label Manufacturers’ Association tradeshow in Amsterdam in May 2019.
