TOP GLOVE JOINS HANDS WITH MR. D.I.Y. FOR ENVIRONMENTAL CONSERVATION

Top Glove to donate RM0.42 to WWF-Malaysia for every box of Biogreen™ Biodegradable Nitrile Gloves (Powder-Free) sold at Mr. D.I.Y.

Shah Alam, Friday, 16 August 2019 Top Glove Corporation Bhd (Top Glove) today marked a meaningful collaboration with MR. D.I.Y. and WWF-Malaysia, with a signing ceremony at its corporate headquarters in Top Glove Tower. This initiative would see Top Glove, the world’s largest manufacturer of gloves, donating RM0.42 to WWF-Malaysia for each box of its Biogreen™ Biodegradable Nitrile Gloves (Powder-Free) sold at MR. D.I.Y. outlets nationwide, as well as on online platforms www.mrdiy.com and www.TGBuys.com (Top Glove’s online store) between 1 August 2019 and 30 April 2020. 

Top Glove targets to donate a total of RM30,000 to WWF-Malaysia for this campaign, to be channelled towards WWF-Malaysia’s conservation efforts. This represents about 5% of the estimated sales revenue from Biogreen™ gloves sold at MR. D.I.Y.

The ceremony was graced by YB Yeo Bee Yin, Minister of Energy, Science, Technology, Environment and Climate Change (MESTECC). Also present at the occasion were Dato’ Lee Kim Meow, Managing Director of Top Glove, Dato' Azlam Shah Alias (Chairman of MR. D.I.Y.), Helina Yow (Director of Partnerships at WWF-Malaysia), as well as senior representatives from the 3 organisations.

Tan Sri Dr Lim Wee Chai, Executive Chairman of Top Glove said, “I am very happy that Top Glove has initiated this collaboration with MR. D.I.Y. and WWF-Malaysia. We believe that environmental sustainability cannot be separated from business sustainability, and are mindful of our responsibility to impact the world positively. This initiative represents another welcome opportunity for us to give back to our community and the planet”.

“In line with our commitment towards responsible production, our flagship green product, Biogreen™ gloves will be the first of many environmentally friendly products we develop for our synthetic latex glove range. Moving forward, we will also continue to invest in R&D and innovation to improve our natural resources management, raw material consumption and production processes”, Tan Sri Dr Lim added.

The Biogreen™ Biodegradable Nitrile Gloves are designed to provide unparalleled protection both for the user and the environment. These gloves have been proven to biodegrade at least 10 times faster compared to conventional nitrile examination gloves based on the internationally-recognised ASTM D5511 Standard Test. The gloves which have been developed based on an accelerator-free formulation, also minimise the risk of Type IV hypersensitivity reaction triggered by exposure to chemical accelerators.

Hosting some 150 guests in total, the ceremony included a “hand printing” ceremony by signatories to officially mark the collaboration between the 3 parties, which YB Yeo Bee Yin also graciously participated in. The MESTECC Minister also briefly toured Top Glove’s R&D Centre, after which guests were treated to a sit-down lunch at the Top Glove Tower Grand Ballroom.
