KUALA LUMPUR – Top Glove Sdn Bhd has been fined RM50,000 by the sessions court here on two charges involving the Water Services Industry Act 2006.

The National Water Services Commission said in a statement that the fines of RM30,000 and RM20,000 were for not using a standardised electromagnetic flowmeter and for illegally removing the metre installed by Pengurusan Air Selangor Sdn Bhd.

It added that Top Glove committed the offences on May 28, 2019 on premises at Jalan Teratai, Batu 5, off Jalan Meru, Kapar, reported Harian Metro.

Later, Top Glove said in a statement that several of its factories have installed digitised metres to monitor water usage in real time, with the intention of digitalising and automating the recording system.

“One of our engineers mistakenly replaced the Syabas water metre with the company’s digitised water metre at only one of our factories on April 11, 2019.”

The company said it reinstalled the Syabas water metre on May 28, 2019 and paid RM56,000, of which RM52,000 was for an estimated 47 days’ water usage, based on Air Selangor’s calculations.
