KUALA LUMPUR (Feb 15): Top Glove Corp Bhd's research and development (R&D) unit Top Glove International Sdn Bhd has ranked second highest among Malaysian patent applicants for 2020.

The company is the only glovemaker to be included in the top 20 list of patent applicants.

In a statement today, the firm said Top Glove International was accorded the recognition by the Intellectual Property Corporation of Malaysia (MyIPO), under the Ministry of Domestic Trade and Consumer Affairs.

Top Glove said it has always appreciated the significance of intellectual property, especially the role it plays in an increasingly knowledge-driven economy.

“At Top Glove, creating value through sustainable practices ranks high on our corporate agenda.

“We have always believed in doing well by doing good and remaining committed to managing our business in a way that respects and contributes positively to the environment, resources, and greater community.

“In view of this, it is crucial to encourage innovation as well as the protection and commercialisation of this innovation,” it said.

Top Glove said in 2020, its R&D centres had filed 52 patent applications in Malaysia and 97 patent applications overseas, related to gloves, formers, dental dams, chemicals used in the glove industry and automation systems, which enhance product quality and improve the production efficiency.

At 11.23am, Top Glove gained 0.16% or one sen to RM6.19, valuing it at RM50.77 billion.
